The DiSC Model And DiSC Profile

In the book “Emotions of Normal People”, written by William Moulton Marston, published in 1928, we were first introduced to the DiSC model, still used in the DiSC profile today. Since then, more than a 50 million people worldwide have completed the profile. The assessment itself was developed four decades ago and has been popular ever since. We have now seen three generations of the DiSC Profile, results of our continuing dedication to quality, validity and accuracy.

The 1st Generation DiSC Profile

1-disc-profileThe very first generation, known as the DiSC Classic Paper Profile, was first known as the Personal Profile System. Now, it is simply called the DiSC Classic. This is the paper version, which comes in a booklet. It includes a 20 page DiSC Classic paper profile. The questionnaire has 28 boxes with four words per box. The participant then chooses which one of the four words is most like them, as well as picking which one of the four words is the least like them. Simply rub the box that comes after the applicable word to continue. Naturally, the booklet includes instructions on scoring and creating a graph with the results. It is very easy to interpret the DiSC Profile. This version is perfect for those people who do not have internet access.

The 2nd Generation DiSC Profile

2-disc-profileWith the 2nd generation profile, the DiSC Classic 2.0 Online Profile, the DiSC classic product was made available online. This package includes DiSC Classic 2 Plus, DiSC Classic 2.0 and DiSC PPSS General Characteristics, which are all assessments. The questionnaire is exactly the same as the paper version, but the user does not have to graph the results themselves, as this is done automatically. The results will show the scores on the four scales of the DiSC. This version also looks at the 15 Classical Patterns, which demonstrates just how integrated and interactive the four scales are. These patterns are based on the profile plotting points, also known as the relationships, of the four dimensions and how they relate to each other. Each Classical Pattern is the representation of different behavioral styles.

The 3rd Generation DiSC Profile

3-disc-profileThe 3rd generation is the Everything DiSC Online Profile. Here, all the different layers of the DiSC Model are applied. This allows people to see how DiSC is relevant to their specific profession.

The Everything DiSC includes five separate profiles, which are the Workplace Profile, the Work of Leaders Profile, the 363 for Leaders Profile, the Sales Profile and the Management Profile. Many companies want to use DiSC to enhance their workplace. The system is used to train managers and leaders, team members and sales people to name but a few. Because the profile is circular representation, it is intuitive and simple to use. At the same time it provides a lot of information with just a glance. Because of this process, there is no longer any need to find the link between DiSC and specific developmental goals and needs. Participants are not provided with four separate traits, but rather with the continuous nature of the profile itself. They are shown phrases and are then required to value each phrase on a five point scale, in terms of how much they agree with it.

The report in Everything DiSC shows the style in a circle, placing dots in key areas and offering a shaded area that is the participant’s unique style. All the profiles use Adaptive Testing, which places the dots incredibly precisely on the Everything DiSC map. This is an interactive assessment process and it makes it possible to ask the right questions to the right person. If, for instance, inconsistencies are found on a scale, further questions will be asked to see what the true score should be. If, on the other hand, it demonstrates they have two styles that are equal in strength, some additional questions will be asked in order to determine whether one might be slightly stronger than the other.

The line-graph format found in the traditional DiSC Profile is a very powerful tool to use. However, the circular version is far more precise and shows the real DiSC style, as well as offering a better user experience. The Everything DiSC Profiles are the latest profiles to hit the world by storm. It allows people to connect on new levels, both professionally and personally. Each profile comes with strategies, in-depth information, follow-up reports and personalized action plans.
